Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Winston Duke, Alan Arkin, Post Malone & more.

The other day I was searching for something light-hearted to watch on Netflix. I have watched some serious films lately and I wanted something that would make me laugh. But on the journey to find a light film, I came across this film which was being advertised by a picture of Wahlberg and Malone. After that, I knew I had to watch it because Malone seems like a genuine, nice guy and I wanted to see if he could act.

Movie Talk

Spenser Confidential (2020) is full of action, violence and carefully placed moments of humor. The story focuses on a group of police officers in Boston, many with the famous Boston accent. Throughout the film, you learn which officers have outside intentions and which have good intentions for the community. There are plot twists, good music and my favorite character, Hawk (Winston Duke) loves oat milk (as do I, so I found that joke quite funny). There are also a few times when I literally laughed out loud while watching this film, but there are also serious moments of gory, strong violence.

Highlights/What to think about:

Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) encounters some unjust situations that he has to decide to get involved in, or to leave them behind. Ultimately, getting involved could result in helping clear someone’s name, but it would also be risking his life. While watching this film, I challenge you think what you would do if you were in Spenser’s situation: save yourself, or risk yourself to restore someone else’s reputation?

Watch this film: 7.3/10

Overall, I think this film was solid. I am not a fan of violence and gore, but I understand how that fit into the movie and it’s story. The humor in this film elevated it for me, particularly the character of Hawk and a cute dog named Pearl, yup Pearl. Nice name Wahlberg.

I would rate this film 7/10 because I think it was a good film, that I would recommend to someone who enjoys action films with violence and real-life situations. It is not the typical film I would watch on a Sunday night, but I am glad I watched it. I gave this film an extra .3 because Post Malone has serious acting skills, and I can see him working on another film and having a bigger role. If someone else had his role in the film (Squeeb), I am not sure it would have been as entertaining. I look forward to seeing him act more, he is a talented guy, what can I say?

You can watch this film on Netflix, read about it on IMDb, or watch the trailer on YouTube.

Sentence Summary:

When Spenser gets out of jail, he has the choice to leave his old life behind, or go back and try to make things right.

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a great week!
